THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE. ---------------------------------------- Well it's not surprising they went with an all out race for the finale. My only disappointment is not seeing McQueen there with the others. Looks like everyone is both excited and tense about the race itself. The one to really look out for is Teiou out there. You can tell she poured all her heart into winning and the promise she made. Quite an inspirational way to showcase her determination if you ask me. Heh, I'm glad they bought back the idol performance one more time. 7/10.

Okay first half, everyone expecting Kita to go to France, Kita confused what's going on with her body and being told by Gold Ship that she has reached her peak. But wait... they decided to skip Dia's whole Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe stuff? We go from Dia going to France waiting for Kita, but Kita decides to skip out and train, we see the news headline of Dia getting 15th in France and at the end Dia is already back in Japan... I wonder if we'll get a flash back or something next episode that at least covers part of it? Maybe not. As for the race we get this episode, this time is Fall Tenno Sho, bad weather giving her a bad start, lots of slipping but she still won the race and really wanted that win, though seems like the reality was setting in for her that she has reached her peak at the end of the race. Mixed feelings on this one. It's definitely not as good as season 2; Kitasan Black is fine as a protagonist but so much less interesting than Teio, and her character arc retreading the exact same ground as Top Road's from the ONA does not help (how many horse girls is this local shopping street rooting for. you're kinda diluting the message here). This season also breaks the formula of having one big rivalry as the emotional core and it becomes kinda hard to get invested at Kita's 4th rival. She even came pre-packaged with a girlfriend ! Why are we inventing new characters who will get 15 minutes of screentime total (because this is a gacha adaptation, I know). On the other hand it's kinda... completely in theme for this season to be worse than S2 ? The very first thing Kita realizes is that it's simply not possible to live up to Teio's legendary run (which from cursory wikipedia browsing is still unmatched in irl japanese horseracing almost 27 years later). Her final arc of realizing she's past her prime almost reads like the show speaking about itself, which kind of gels with the recent movie being titled "Beginning of a New Era" and I think I'd be okay moving on from team Spica now. (also I need that movie the trailer looks absolutely insane)
