More freedom and less time spent managing diabetes with mylife Loop (1)

Dear Kathi, can you please briefly introduce yourself in your own words?

I live my life as an encourager and like to talk on social media about how to deal positively with my ten chronic conditions, give insights into self-care and show how to combine family, career, vocation, sport and illness. I live in a small town in Baden-Württemberg with my husband, our three children and my mother-in-law. Daily sport is both my balance and my passion. I have been playing table tennis since early childhood. I also discovered swimming, hula hoop and a mini trampoline a few years ago. I have found my calling in the field of type 1 diabetes and lipoedema and have been working as a patient expert, entrepreneur and healthfluencer for around ten years.

mylife Loop helps me to take better care of my other chronic conditions.

How long have you been using mylife Loop and what made you decide in favour of mylife Loop?

I have been using mylife Loop since June 2022. I tested the system and quickly realised that the algorithm and the mylife YpsoPump insulin pump were a great fit for me and my complex everyday life. I therefore opted for the mylife Loop as the most efficient AID system for me.

With mylife Loop, I can focus on the important things in life and rely on the fact that my diabetes management is running smoothly.

How does mylife Loop help you to manage your everyday family life with three children?

mylife Loop allows me to spend a lot of time in my target area without much effort. As a working mum, I am grateful that I have to invest less time in my diabetes management and have more time for family activities. There is always a lot going on at home with three children.

I really appreciate the individual functions such as the target value adjustment paired with the boost or easy-off mode. When we go on day trips with the children and are out and about a lot, I usually set my glucose target a little higher or work with the easy-off mode. I also like to combine these two options depending on my baseline.

An AID system has to be just as flexible in my everyday family life as the family dynamics are. If we spontaneously decide to go swimming, I know that this is absolutely no problem with mylife Loop. The mylife YpsoPump is waterproof, so I can practise swimming with my children and leave the pump on. Even spontaneously planned amusem*nt park trips or short holidays are mastered excellently by mylife Loop.

You recently reached the semi-finals of the Miss Germany competition. What does this honour mean to you and how did mylife Loop support you?

The Miss Germany journey took six months. During this time, I went through several stages in the form of castings, panel talks and a week of presence in Berlin, during which we had a full and tight programme from morning to night. I was super nervous before the auditions, which primarily took place online at first. With boost mode switched on, I stayed within my target range despite the excitement. mylife Loop not only supported me with fabulous diabetes management on my Miss Germany journey, but I was able to use the mylife CamAPS FX app to explain and show how the system helps me in different situations in life with type 1 diabetes and how it works. I was able to raise awareness of type 1 diabetes, explain the insulin pump, describe what the algorithm does and thus generate a lot of media attention for the clinical picture of type 1 diabetes.

It means a lot to me to have reached the Miss Germany semi-finals. The constant visibility of my mylife YpsoPump has led to many valuable conversations about living with type 1 diabetes and diabetes management with my AID System.

Media representation of people with diabetes is only successful if we also ensure visibility beyond our own "diabetes bubble". Thanks to the platform that Miss Germany provided us participants with, I was able to counteract stigmatisation, promote prevention through education and raise awareness of chronic conditions. Almost every second person in Germany is chronically ill. We therefore need to draw much more attention to these socially relevant issues.

Since I have been using mylife Loop, I have been able to sleep through the night with my diabetes. Even if my value is a little high before going to bed, mylife Loop regulates the value quite quickly and reliably.

mylife Loop supports people with diabetes, relieving them of the burden of therapy management and giving them more time for things they enjoy doing. How does that work for you? Where does mylife Loop take the pressure off you and what do you have more time for?

Above all, I have regained spontaneity. With my previous diabetes management - whether it was insulin pen therapy, insulin pump therapy or another AID system - I was never able to be as spontaneous as I am now and rely so much on my system.

Thanks to mylife Loop, I have more time for spontaneous active breaks between my working hours (I like to incorporate short training sessions into my work breaks). These active breaks are important for me to stimulate the lymph so that the lymph fluid can be better drained. This has a positive effect on lipoedema and lymphoedema.

I also have more time for enjoyable family outings and activities. Due to the complexity of my job, we often have to decide spontaneously what to do with the children. mylife Loop makes these decisions much easier for me, as all doors are open to me and the whole family thanks to the system's many customisation options.

But probably the biggest relief for me is during the nights.

When I look at my mylife CamAPS FX app in the morning, I'm always happy to see a super-flat curve around my target value.

What would you recommend to people with diabetes when they have to decide on a therapy system?

First of all I recommend realising what you expect from a therapy system and what is important to you in relation to a system. Is it spontaneity? A small and lightweight insulin pump? A choice when it comes to the sensor? Is it important to you to have your values on your smartphone? Where do you need flexibility? You can draw up a list of your requirements and wishes for an AID system in advance.

I also think it's very important to familiarise yourself with the algorithm behind the AID system and to make yourself an expert in the field of your desired system. With mylife Loop, for example, you have the opportunity to familiarise yourself extensively with the algorithm on the homepage www.camdiab.com. You can also find out about the various infusion sets in advance and even take a look at them in a diabetes shop near you. You can download the mylife YpsoPump Explorer App to familiarise yourself with the pump and the operation of the mylife YpsoPump.
